Overview: CLI, skill and MCP

How AI tools reach Cloudtifact: the CLI does the work, the skill tells the agent when to use it, and the MCP server connects chat apps like ChatGPT and Claude.

Three pieces, one job each. The CLI does the work. The skill tells an AI when to reach for Cloudtifact and which commands to run. The MCP server lets chat apps that have no terminal, like ChatGPT and Claude on the web, do the same work. The CLI and the MCP server call the same API, so they behave the same.

CLI: the work

npm i -g cloudtifact (Node.js 20 or later). Sign in once with cloudtifact login; the token stays on your machine. Then:

cloudtifact publish page.html # an HTML page and its files → a link
cloudtifact comments --toon # open comments, as a compact table
cloudtifact reply <id> "Fixed: …" # answer a thread
cloudtifact resolve <id> # close it

It works wherever there's a shell. Coding agents use it directly: it's quick, cheap on tokens, and they can script around it. See the CLI reference.

Skill: when to use it

A SKILL.md file that loads only when it's relevant: when someone asks for a page, a report, a dashboard or a prototype to share, or asks about feedback on something they published. It tells the agent to publish with Cloudtifact and give the link, and to read, fix, reply to and resolve comments. Until it's used it costs about 100 tokens.

The skill is in github.com/Cloudtifact/plugins, packaged as a plugin for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and GitHub Copilot. cloudtifact skill install also writes it into every agent's skills folder on your machine.

A skill is instructions, so it needs a way to act: the CLI where there's a terminal, the MCP server in a chat app.

MCP server: chat apps

Chat apps can't run the CLI. Some have no terminal; others have a sandbox that can't reach Cloudtifact and forgets your sign-in after every chat. The MCP server at https://mcp.cloudtifact.com/mcp fixes that: add it to ChatGPT or Claude once, sign in with your Cloudtifact account, and ask it to publish. You can revoke it from Settings on the website, like a CLI sign-in. See ChatGPT and Claude and Connect an AI app (MCP).

Coding agents don't need it: they already have the CLI, and the skill covers the rest.
